Deputy Prime Minister visits EWA Control Centre
Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, visited the Electricity and Water Authority’s (EWA) Control Centre in Hidd to review the Authority’s performance results for the summer of 2025, covering the period from May to September.
Upon arrival, the Deputy Prime Minister was received by Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of EWA; Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and a number of senior officials.
During the visit, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah was briefed on the positive performance results achieved by EWA, which reflect the Authority’s commitment to maintaining high levels of operational readiness and reliability through early planning, coordinated teamwork, and the use of smart digital technologies for monitoring and control.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Bahrain’s continuous progress in modernising and developing its infrastructure reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, to enhance the quality and efficiency of government services in support of the Kingdom’s comprehensive development and in line with the aspirations of its citizens.
He noted that the progress achieved across key sectors, particularly in electricity and water, is the result of national efforts and a government approach focused on investing in modern technologies to ensure the continuity, efficiency, and reliability of services, while making the best use of available resources.
Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah underlined that electricity and water are essential sectors that form the backbone of development in Bahrain, noting that the provision of services across all regions reflects effective planning and the operational system’s ability to meet the needs of the Kingdom’s growing population and urban expansion. He added that these efforts support sustainable development and lay a strong foundation for a more prosperous future.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his appreciation to Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed and all employees of the Electricity and Water Authority for their dedication and professionalism in managing this vital sector. He said that the positive results reflect the spirit of "Team Bahrain" and the commitment and responsibility of national cadres in delivering high-quality and sustainable services.
For his part, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the government’s continuous support to the Authority, which has enabled it to achieve strong operational results this year.
He also thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for visiting the Control Centre, noting that the visit reflects the attention of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, to the Authority’s performance and strategic projects. He added that the visit motivates all employees to continue working with dedication to further develop Bahrain’s electricity and water infrastructure and ensure the sustainability and quality of services in accordance with the highest operational standards.
EWA’s performance results for the summer showed a 40.5% decrease in electricity outage cases compared to last year, most of which were related to internal connections. The Authority restored power to 90% of affected cases within less than one hour, reflecting the readiness and rapid response capability of its teams.
Internationally recognised performance indicators also recorded significant improvement, with the number of network outages reduced by 58.3% and outage duration reduced by 57.5% compared to the same period last year.
These are the lowest figures recorded in the past five years, reflecting the strength and reliability of Bahrain’s electricity networks and the effectiveness of the Authority’s preventive maintenance programmes carried out before the summer season to ensure full readiness.
The peak electricity load reached 4,017 megawatts, an increase of 117 megawatts, representing a 3% annual growth, while total generation capacity reached 5,044 megawatts, confirming the network’s ability to meet the growing demand during the summer months.
The Authority also recorded a decline in reports of water supply issues compared to previous summers and succeeded in resolving reported cases within six hours, demonstrating the effectiveness of its network management and the accuracy of water distribution and reallocation from multiple sources to strengthen supply across all areas.
Regarding customer experience, EWA’s re-engineering of more than 27 services led to a 7% increase in the use of digital channels and a 12% decrease in calls to the contact centre. The Authority also introduced an AI-powered outage management system to improve field operations and accelerate power restoration, in addition to launching a unified digital portal to enhance the use of online services.
