Manufacturer Prequalification

To ensure a secure and reliable electricity network, only manufacturers approved by EWA are permitted to supply materials and equipment. EWA evaluates each manufacturer’s technical and financial capabilities, and assesses their materials and equipment to ensure compliance with EWA specifications and relevant international standards for quality and performance.

To initiate the process, suppliers are invited to submit a prequalification application, enabling EWA’s team to assess the manufacturers’ technical expertise, financial stability, and compliance with international standards. This ensures only qualified and reliable manufacturers are approved to supply materials to the distribution network— thereby supporting quality, safety, and long-term supply chain resilience.

Application Process

  1. Submit application and required documents via email to prequalification@ewa.bh.
  2. Receive submission acknowledgement email; resubmission may be required if any documents are missing or need revision.
  3. Receive notification to pay the service fees upon acceptance of the request.
  4. Receive approval letter by email after obtaining Tender Board approval.

Documents Required

  1. Electricity Prequalification Application
  2. Letter of Representation
  3. Declaration of Commitment
  4. Declaration of Compliance
  5. Last three years audited financial report of the manufacturer
  6. ISO 9001:2015 Certificate of the manufacturer
  7. Equipment catalouge, datasheet and manual. 
  8. Equipment technical drawings 
  9. Applicable EDD specification(s) stamped on every page including filled Schedule of Guarantee
  10. Authorization letter from the Original Equipment Manufacturer
  11. Third party audit visit report

Additional documents may be requested as per the list of submittals of the service request form.

Service Fees

  • Non-refundable fees of BD 50, plus VAT, in accordance with Tender Board Decision No. 1 of 2017 concerning fees for purchasing tender documents and the value of prequalification documents.

Service Steps

  1. Review Specifications and Guidelines
    Review the relevant technical specifications and Prequalification Guidelines to understand the requirements.
  2. Preliminary Application Acceptance & Fee Payment
    Submit a request for application to prequalification@ewa.bh. Once accepted, you will receive a notification to pay the required service fees to proceed with the process.
  3. Submit Application
    Complete the service form and submit it along with all required documents via prequalification@ewa.bh
  4. Application Review
    Our team will review your submitted application, technical documents, certifications, and manufacturer capabilities to ensure full compliance with EWA’s prequalification standards. If any information is incomplete or requires correction, you will be asked to resubmit the necessary updates.
  5. Third-Party Inspection (If Applicable)
    For certain equipment, a third-party factory inspection may be required based on the Prequalification Guidelines.
  6. Prequalification Approval
    Following Tender Board approval, the official prequalification approval letter will be sent to you via email.

Required documents are requested at different stages of the process. The third-party audit visit report is requested after the factory visit.

After getting Prequalified, manufacturers undergo a crucial step of detailed technical review and mandatory testing to ensure all equipment fully comply with EWA’s technical specifications. This process guarantees that only equipment meeting the technical requirements and upholds highest quality and performance standards are approved—safeguarding the distribution network’s safety and reliability.

  1. Submit application and required documents as soft copies at EWA’s Customer Care Building (CCB) in Um Al Hassam.
  2. Receive submission acknowledgment email; resubmission may be required if any documents are missing or need revision.
  3. Receive approval letter by email.

Documents Required

  1. Electricity Type Approval Form
  2. Equipment catalogue
  3. Equipment datasheet and drawings
  4. Schedule of guarantee
  5. Routine test reports
  6. Complete type test/ special test reports and certificates from an independent accredited testing Laboratory
  7. Laboratory Scope of Accreditation in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017

Additional technical documents and measures may be requested if needed during this process.

  3. Application Review
    Our team will review your submitted application, technical documents, certifications, and ensure full compliance with EWA’s specifications. If any information is incomplete or requires correction, you will be asked to resubmit the necessary updates.
  4. Sample Inspection
    Deliver a sample of your equipment for our team inspection and detailed assessment.
  5. Type Testing
    Your equipment will undergo independent third-party type-testing based on our technical specifications and guidelines. We may consider previous test certificates if they meet all requirements; otherwise, further testing or updated reports will be needed for non-compliant results.
  6. Field Assessment
    Your equipment will be subject to field assessment under Bahrain service conditions for a predefined period.
  7. Approval Release
    Once all requirements are met, you'll receive an official attestation letter confirming your equipment's type approval.
