Investing in Your Sustainable Future: EWA's Innovative Projects
KAFA’A Project
The KAFA’A Project stands as Bahrain's national initiative dedicated to increasing energy efficiency and promoting sustainable practices within high energy use buildings.
New Water Distribution Stations at Hunainya and South Saar
In support of urban development and expansion horizontally and vertically, the Electricity and Water Authority has begun constructing two water distribution stations in Al-Hunainiyah and South Saar areas. The aim is to enhance the efficiency and continuity of water supplies in these areas, in addition to meeting the growing water demand in the surrounding areas.
Al Dur Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Power Station Project
EWA is set to launch an ambitious project to establish a solar power station in Al Dur area of the Southern Governorate of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Al Jasra Substation
This strategic project involves the construction of one 400 kV substation at Jasra and the installation of three 400 kV feeders connections to Riffa and Um Al Hassam 400 kV substation, in addition to reconfiguration of nine 220 kV and 66 kV feeders.
University of Bahrain Solar System Through PPA Scheme
Establishment of a 46.2-megawatt photovoltaic (PV) field on the University of Bahrain (UOB) campus, in alignment with the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). EWA will serve as the sole investor in this initiative, which involves the Build, Own, Operate, and Maintain (BOOM) model for the solar PV system.
Establishment of New 66 kV Substations
To address the rising electricity demand in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) is launching a major initiative to enhance its transmission network capacity.
Belaj Al Jazaer IPP Solar Farm
The project involves the construction of a new PV Solar Farm by the Private Sector on the basis of Build-Own-Operate (BOO) business model.
Hamala Reverse Osmosis Water Production Plant
EWA is planning the construction of a New Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) Production Plant at the existing Hamala Ground Forwarding Station. This facility is designed to produce 10 million Gallons of Potable Water daily from Brackish groundwater, enhancing Bahrain's water supply capabilities.
Hawar Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant
To support the development projects in the Hawar Islands, the Electricity and Water Authority is planning to build a seawater desalination plant in the main island of Hawar. The plant's initial production capacity is one million gallons per day, while its storage capacity is two million gallons. Both production and storage capacities are extendable, to cater for future demand according to the development programs of Hawar Islands.
Energy Transition Plan
The Energy Transition Plan, drafted in 2023, serves as a roadmap for transitioning from fossil fuels to more sustainable energy sources. It emphasizes the importance of supply security, diversification of energy sources, decarbonization, and cost optimization through enhanced efficiency in power production.
