Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain
Mirza received Viva Bahrain’s new Chief Executive Officer Nizar Banbela. He was
accompanied by company Head of Commercial Services Karim Tabboush.
The minister congratulated Mr. Banbela on his appointment
and wished him success. Dr. Mirza praised the role of VIVA in the development
of the telecommunications sector in Bahrain, stressing the need to strengthen
cooperation between government agencies and private sector companies to boost
the economic sector.
The two sides reviewed the desire of VIVA to benefit from
clean energy and achieve rationalization and efficient consumption in its
facilities by the installation of solar energy systems in cooperation with the
Sustainable Energy Centre, which would provide technical and engineering
support to VIVA to implement the project.
The minister praised Viva’s clean energy initiative, saying
that this would contribute to achieving the national renewable energy and
energy efficiency goals that Bahrain is striving to achieve by 2025.
The Viva CEO said supporting sustainable development goals
comes at the top of the company's priorities, pointing out that renewable
energy and energy efficiency are among the solutions that they are developing
within their short and long term strategy, in light of the company's focus.
He thanked the minister and officials for their continuous
efforts which have resulted in many achievements in the fields of electricity,
water and renewable energy.
The meeting was attended by Acting Executive Director of the
Centre for Sustainable Energy Alexander Samahiji, and a number of officials.
