HE The Minister attends top Abu Dhabi meeting



​Energy Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza took part in the opening session of the sixth session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) General Assembly in Abu Dhabi during the activities of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

The minister, speaking on the occasion, explained Bahrain’s strategy with regard to the sustainability of energy and the creation of appropriate renewable energies available in the country, the most important being solar and wind energy options. He said the Bahrain government had approved work on a sustainable energy programme and that a national plan for renewable energy would unify efforts to achieve national contributions with regard to energy and what has been presented at the United Nations climate conference in Paris in December.

He said Bahrain hoped to develop concrete programmes and legislation to expand the contribution of renewable energy so that it is able to secure a sustainable energy future.

The minister also welcomed cooperation with the International Renewable Energy Agency in order to benefit from their expertise in this area.

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is a global gathering that attracts ministers and decision-makers in sustainable energy and inter-related challenges of energy and water security, climate change and sustainable development. More than 80 heads of state, ministers and officials from more than 170 countries are among the 33,000 people who take part in the deliberations.
